The First Level of each 2D Mario Game.


The Super Mario series is a phenomenon. 6 out of the 50 best selling games of all times are 2D Super Mario games, the Super Mario franchise is the most successful video game franchise of all time, Super Mario is unbelievably successful. But why? Honestly, why is the super mario franchise so popular? At first glance Super Mario isn’t the coolest thing imaginable. At its core it’s a series about an italian plumber whos crush happens to be a princess, that gets kidnapped by a gigantic turtle a lot. In this video, we are going to take a look at the first level of each 2D Super Mario game as a stand in for the whole game, we will first take a look back at over three decades of Super Mario history and afterwards we will try to find an answer to the question how nintendo managed to keep the mario games interesting over such a long time.
