UCONN, coached by Jim Calhoun, wins the national title with a 77-74 victory in the final game over Duke. Tournament MVP Richard Rip Hamilton scored 27 points and pulled down 7 rebounds for the Huskies. This was a significant victory for the program, as it cemented their reputation as a true basketball power after decades of barely missing the Final Four.
