Could video games be used as a teaching tool to address, maybe even prevent, sexual violence? Kenzie Gordon, a UAlberta humanities computing Masters’ student, thinks so. Video games can immerse us in ways other media forms cannot. They require us to make decisions then show us the results of our actions in a safe environment. Kenzie is studying video game capacity to help address sexual violence, and has developed an online game called “It’s Your Move.” The game will be used as part of a bystander intervention program for developed for bartenders. Often, bystanders don’t intervene because they don’t know what to do. “It’s Your Move” will let bartenders apply their training in a safe environment while providing feedback on the choices they made.
